A “Gap Analysis” is a very important concept in SEO.  In some form or another, you need to constantly evaluate the amount of traffic that is available to you or your client, and the amount of traffic you are actually getting from search engines.  This gap is the opportunity that you are working to close through a dedicated SEO campaign.  And if there is no gap at all, then you should quickly start working on something else, because it means that your work will be fruitless!
